Traditional Medicine has been used as the first line of medical care by more than half of world population. The idea of 'Traditional Medicine' is gaining recognition worldwide. WHO, FDA and EMEA has announced rules and regulations governing the use of Traditional Medicine as well as Herbal Medicine. According to the data collected, there are 130 countries that uses Chinese Medicine and 124 countries has Chinese medical institutes. Review by the Harvard Business Review predicts that Chinese Herbal Medicine will be one of the four biggest industries in the next 20 years.

CCMP was founded in 1995 to serve the purpose of regulate Chinese Medicine and its development in Taiwan. Research and Development (R&D) is always one of the main focus of CCMP, we hope to establish a systematic way of conducting R&D of Chinese Medicine so as to improve the quality of Chinese Medicine products using scientific methods. We aim to globalize Chinese Medicine and meeting the current demand.

The importance of Chinese Medicine has been clearly shown by the budget of CCMP, which has been increasing steadily at the rate of 10% per year. The budget for 2007 is 5 times of that in 1996. CCMP started the plan of Modernization and Globalization of Chinese Medicine since 2000, which involves improve the quality control and technology of Chinese medicine production, building of clinical research system, as well as regulations of clinical research. To attain the high standard of Chinese Medicine research, the evaluation of the research protocol has been standardized according to the ISO. For 3 consecutive years, the plan of Modernization and Globalization of Chinese Medicine has achieved graded 'A' at the end of year evaluation.

To fully utilize the results of researches, CCMP published annual reports, organized presentation of the research outcomes, regular update of the official website with latest information. We turn academic success to practical use, for instance the issue of Taiwan Traditional Pharmacopoeia, GMP of Chinese Medicine manufacturers, labeling of all Chinese Medicine products, setting up clinical research centers for Chinese Medicine and accreditation of Chinese Medicine hospitals.

In 2007, CCMP focus on applications of research outcome; encourage patent application, publishing of book which are used academically. CCMP hope to bring together the academics and private sectors, to turn the science of Chinese Medicine from bench to bedside, and from bedside to community. Encourage the development of Chinese Medicine in Taiwan, and improve Taiwan’s competitiveness in the world market.

2006 Research Outcome Presentation will be held from 17th to 18th of November at the Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science, all are welcome to grace the event and share our success in Chinese Medicine research.
